"Matinee Madness" with Yo! Adrian
Adrian was born in Yorkshire and raised in England as the youngest of three boys. His mother was a comedian and contortionist who traveled with an English entertainment group that performed for soldiers during World War II. His father, part of another group, played the piano, where he met Adrian’s mother. Adrian was predisposed to be an entertainer. From sitting in pub gardens at age six, singing backup vocals to Doris Day songs with his parents, he developed his talent and began playing guitar at twelve. Bass guitar was his weapon of choice, but he later transitioned to six-string to perform solo. He played with several local bands, including one called Morning Glory, when he married his wife at the Rock of Gibraltar, Spain, by the same Justice of the Peace who married John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
They moved to Hawaii for three years, where he performed with a band called LA the Party. He then moved to Maine, living there for eight years, playing with a band called Sons of the Beach and performing a solo act, the Yo!Adrian Show, at his wife’s family bar, Mulligans. After separating and divorcing, he moved to Key West for a fresh start. Struggling financially, he took a job with the Conch Train, where he worked for 18 months, earning Driver of the Year once and Driver of the Month twice. His entertaining tours, dubbed the YoAdrian Tour, blended Key West history with his unique humor.He was given gigs at Clancy’s Bar on Charles Street, filling in for another entertainer, Yankee Jack, on his days off. He married his current wife of 28 years, Lara, an artist and excellent cook, and began to rebuild his reputation. When Irish Kevin’s opened, he was one of three performers at the bar. He stayed at Kevin’s for six years, then worked at the Bear Bottom Beach Club across the street for two years, and finally at Rick’s Bar for 18 years—all within one block on Duval Street. For over 25 years, he has brought laughter and tears to locals and travelers in Key West.
During this time, he traveled, performing gigs at various venues and bars across states, returning to Maine in the summers to play at The Pier and The Bull and Brew in Old Orchard Beach for Paul Golzbein. He has also played with Sons of the Beach every other weekend during the summer months until Labor Day for 37 years, performing on bass guitar. His bandmates—Dan Merrill, Ronnie Bouffard, and Stevie Boutette—are dear to him, as is his fan base in Maine.
He is now being given the opportunity to perform at The Comedy Club in Key West on Whitehead Street, where his fans will seek him out. From one end of US1 to the other, he will continue to bring people together for laughter, tears, and dedications. Adrian is grateful for all the opportunities to deliver his best, from Maine to Key West.
